This portrait was done by one of the masters of his craft, Fedoskino artist V. Svyatchenkov. The image of the young woman is one of softness and tenderness. Her diaphanous gown covers some of her body, but is so light one can partially see through to the skin tones underneath. Her left breast is completely exposed yet the colors are so similar and nuanced that it comes off as very tasteful. Three narrow bands that hold her hair in place look rather strict, but are balanced by a extremely delicate necklace with pearls extending down to her chest. The portrait is framed by two gold ornaments. An unusual green and gold plaid pattern decorates the sides. The box is made out of high quality papier mache and does not have legs. The interior is traditional red. Signed with the name of the artist and village. Since we showed this piece to you many years ago, the artist Svyatchenkov has risen in fame in the village of Fedoskino and you are now starting to see more of his beautiful works appearing in books on the subject.
