This time-honored favorite has great personality. The expressions of the characters are nicely done. The old man takes off his hat and bends down on one knee, as if to worship the magical stag, who brings to them much fortune. Although the daughter appears fairly calm about the animal herself, her dropped mitten indicates that she is every bit as surprised as her grandfather. The cat, meanwhile, has an arched back, puffing it up in fear and glancing sidelong at the glittering pile of gold. The box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the lid with the title, artist's name (Fiskova), and village. There is a hinge at the top, and the interior is red lacquer. The flush base bears the Kholui insignia and the phrase, "Made in Russia." A charming fairy tale box.
