This rectangular box shows the famed Golden Cockerel, standing on his perch watching for signs of intruders. (You can read the fairy tale on our website, if you like.) There is a lot to like about this box including the majestic Russian architecture in the foreground and the interesting perspective overall, like the way the wall to the kingdom disappears into the background. In addition, the body of the Golden Cockerel has been raised above the surface of the box, giving it a three dimensional form and and even more unique appearance. The sides and bottom are black and have several line ornaments. The box is made out of high quality papier mache and has a hinge at the left. It is signed with the name of the artist (Nabronnova), title, year and name of the village.
