The enchanted stag, Silver Hoof, seems to smile as he watches over the poor young girl and her cat. Her unwavering faith in Silver Hoof's existence will be rewarded. A glittering tangle of foliage painstakingly created with gold leaf dominates the scene, separating girl and stag, before coming to rest in Silver Hoof's golden antlers. (The gold came out looking dark in the photos, but in real life it is quite brilliant.) This style of painting is a signature element of Chibisova's lacquer art, taught to her by her mentor and husband, Roman Chibisov. Tiny details and delicate golden accents invite the viewer to visually explore the girl's tiny cottage and the surrounding countryside. The sides and flush base are decorated with still more golden flowers, creating an opulent look. This box is made of high quality papier mache, and is signed on the underside of the lid with the title, artist's name, village, and date of completion. There is a hinge on the left, and the interior is red lacquer.
