A father and daughter return triumphantly from a winter fishing trip on this striking work by noted Fedoskino artist Sergey Zotov, whose work is featured in the books New Visions; Russian Lacquer Miniatures" and "Russian Lacquer Miniatures, Palekh, Mstiora, Fedoskino, Kholui." The daughter carries a trio of large fish, the heavier two dragging on the snowy ground. Her father has an enormous catch slung over his shoulder, almost as big as his child! As they parade along the snowy riverbank, they recount the capture of their prize catch. The giant fish swims along a free-form mother of pearl appendage, a signature of Zotov's lacquer art, with eyes only for the juicy worm dangling before him as he becomes entangled in the delicate golden fishing line. Mother of pearl winks and shimmers throughout the scene, adding a lively vibrance to the scales of the fishes and striking free form shapes to the box. Brilliant golden accents add to the opulent feel of the scene, while rich cobalt blue and pure white create a stunning backdrop for a beautifully rendered miniature village. The body of the box is cobalt, with scattered mists of pale gold. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the side with the artist's name. There is a hinge on the top left, and the interior is deep rose. It rests on a slightly raised lip around the base.
