A snake hisses and bares its fangs as it tries to escape the talons of this owl shaped box by Fedoskino artist Demyanenkov. The owl appears unnerved, simply turning its head to see what the commotion is about. The owl's back features a round panel, which lifts to reveal the red interior of the box. A droll fishing scene plays out upon the lid, with a fat catfish happily slurping down a baited line. Much like the owl, the fish seems oblivious of the danger posed by its meal, despite the hoots of laughter from the fisherman. This box is made of high quality papier mace and is signed on its flush base with the artist's name, and date of completion.
