A young noblewoman smiles beneath an elaborately adorned powdered wig. Her fur lined cloak drapes behind her in soft folds and valleys. The crimson velvet of her gown glows richly with a glistening foil underlay, creating an incredible illusion of the plush fabrics decadent texture. Frothy cascades of lace emerge from her sleeves before parting to reveal ivory skin and delicate hands. Magnificent brooches encrusted with sapphire and diamond pepper the bodice and sleeves, complementing her blue satin hair ribbon and the delectable pearls of her headdress. The richly panelled interior beckons past a dark velvet drape, a far off glow casting its light and hinting of a lively ball just out of sight. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed discreetly on the lid with the artist's name T. Volodina, village, and date of completion. There is a hinge on the left, and the interior is red lacquer, with the Fedoskino insignia on the underside of the lid. The base of this piece is flush.
