A lone tree rises from the coppery brush to kiss the pewter sky on this tranquil landscape by Svyatchenkov. His work was recently featured in a book on lacquer art, and his portraits are a favorite of collectors. The seemingly two toned palette comes to life with subtle touches of lavender, olive, gold, and amber, which add depth to the scene. The soft renditition of the buildings in shimmering silver tones creates a lovely feel of mist, while the darker foreground adds a sense of the distinct play of light and shadow at the first hint of dawn. Tiny birds reel through the filmy clouds, adding movement. The sides of the box are painted with a metallic slate blue, echoing the softness of the scene.
