Masha (c.2004)from Kholui by S. KomogorovaDimensions: 4.13" x 3.25" x 0.75"(10.50 x 8.00 x 2.00 cm) Gallery Price: $ 425.00 Internet Price: $ 375.00 None currently available |
Based on the folk tale, "Masha and the Bear," this box from Kholui gleams with rich golden accents. Young Masha wanders the woods, gathering berries, unaware that she is dangerously close to the Bear's cottage. And the bear has been looking for a new housekeeper! She smiles out at the viewer, as she raises a slender hand to her lips, perhaps sampling a berry. The scene has been rendered in rich tones, and is veritably dripping with fine golden accents. These pictures do not truly capture this effect, and in person, it is much brighter. Framing the scene is an extravagant border of strawberry vines, with tiny red fruit peering through lush golden foliage. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the flush base with the titles, artist's name (S. Komogovora), and village. There is a hinge on the left, and the interior is red lacquer. A unique work.--BOX1144
