Sergei Radonezshki and Dmitri Donskoj are shown in this box by Palekh artist Galina Mochalina. Sergei, who along with his brother founded the Trinity Monastery, is shown giving Dmitri his blessing as the latter prepares for war, probably the Battle of Kulikovo. The, soldiers and monks are beautifully drawn with intricately defined lines of gold, lending a beautiful glow to the surface of the box. Meanwhile, the gold lines of the monastery architecture are more understated, so as to not detract from the main characters. The box has expertly drawn ornaments in the top and on the sides. It is made of papier mache and has a hinge at the top. It sits on four small rounded legs. The artist wrote her name both on the top and bottom of the box, along with the village, and year of completion. She also wrote the title "Sergei Radonezshki and Dmitri Donskoj" on the bottom. A beautiful box, based on historic events.
