Surrounded by fir-trees and heaps of snow, a wooden cabin sits at the edge of a forest. There isn't any light seen through the windows; perhaps the cabin owner has gone out to hunt or to the market in a nearby village. The sky above the landscape is bluish-gray, forecasting the approaching evening. The mother-of-pearl inlay in the middle of the scene creates the effect of a setting sun. One is tempted to wear the warmest clothes and go explore the path leading into the forest, listening to only the squicking sound of one's steps upon the snow, and the rustle of tree tops moved by the wind.

This charming little box is made from papier mache. It sits flat with no legs, and has a hinge at the top. The box has a red interior. It's signed with the name of the village, year, and artist's signature. Lacquer is in very good condition.
