Father Frost, who is the father of the Snow Maiden in some versions of the story, stands proudly in the deep forest holding his staff. Though he looks old in years, his presence is commanding and the woods is his kingdom. His face has great details right down to the wrinkles under his eye. The blue and grey coat that he is wearing is also beautifully drawn capturing its warmth and softness. The woods and sky in the background creates a stunning stage as it glows with silvery paint. The box has a white line ornament on the top and sides. It is made out of high quality papier mache and has a hinge at the left. Signed with the name of the artist (Viacheslav Svyatchenkov) and village. Svyatchenkov has several boxes featured in two of the most recent books on Russian lacquer art: "Russian Lacquer Painting - 21st Century" and "Russian Lacquer Miniatures".
