The well known Fedoskino artist Maria Vagner did this beautiful work which shows a young woman reading by candlelight. Three pairs of faeries are flying around her and are undoubtedly part of her imagination and total escape into the book that she is reading. Vagner's signature jewel-tone colors, combined with an inlay of iridescent mother-of-pearl in the center, make this a very attractive piece. The sides and bottom have a mottled pattern of gold, silver and blue. In addition, on the bottom the artist painted a nice bouquet of roses. The box is made out of high quality papier mache and has a hinge at the top. The interior is red. It is signed with the name of the artist and village.
