Soft twilight colors and sparkling gold and silver capture the magic of Venetian Carnival. A dimensional streetlight gleaming with gold and silver leaf lights the way as a reveler in baroque costume and whimsical makeup beckons the viewer to join the fun. Gold leaf blazes behind a pair of costumed celebrants, perhaps the glow of fireworks, before vanishing beneath the soft, roiling blues of the famous canals represented by a slew of miniature boats and crashing waves along the rear of the box. A separate base, featuring raised pieces of glittering mother of pearl shaped to hug the box boasts a sea scene. Waves crash as a pair of elaborate ships under full sail glide towards the horizon under the watchful eyes of a flock of gulls. A banner bearing the title of the work flutters on the breeze, and the artist's name, L. Mochalova, perches atop the lower piece of mother of pearl. The artist's work is featured in whose work is featured in the book "Russian Lacquer Miniatures". This box is made of high quality papier mache. There is a hinge at the top, and the interior is red lacquer.
