The young girl pulls off a mitten to pick the out of season flowers March has summoned from the snow covered ground to grant her stepmother's impossible request. The other eleven months sit before a roaring bonfire, peering curiously at their mortal visitor. The girl's tiny cottage perches just over the hill, offering no comfort. The only glow in the windows is a reflection of the bonfire. The scene is nicely painted in chilly pastels to evoke a winter night. Delicate golden accents sparkle throughout, and are echoed in the golden borders of the lid and sides. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the lid with the title, artist's name (V. Morozov), and village. There is a hinge at the top, and the interior is red lacquer. It rests on four round legs.
