Elena Cheney, originally from Moscow, Russia, is a 3rd generation artist. She lived in Zagreb, Croatia for 1 year in 1994 and moved to the United States in 2000. Cheney attended Towson University for her undergraduate study in psychology. She took an intensive course in Positive Psychology and Personal Happiness at Middlesex University, London in 2007. Cheney also had an internship at "Art with a Heart," A non-profit organization focusing on art therapy.

After graduating Cum Laude, Cheney worked as a graphic designer focusing on interactive exhibitions. Cheney started her own design company and also curated annual art exhibitions in order to fundraise for Children's Miracle Network of John's Hopkins and Luke's Wings. Elena Cheney pursued her dream to continue art education and joined the Post Baccalaureate program in Fine Art at Maryland Institute College of Art in 2014.

Cheney is inspired by the environment around her, the beauty of the unsightly, and her vivid & lucid dreams. Her latest works are small acrylic abstractions on wood panels, which she creates in the dark, with a small light source in order to achieve a dream-like state. Elena Cheney is pushing the limits of color, abstracting representational, attempting to erase the line of figure-ground relationship, yet still allowing for an object to be present. The small size of paintings provides intimacy with the hand-held piece during the creative process. Floating free of time and believing that beauty is everywhere, art is life's sweetest creation..
