The sites of Moscow's Red Square in the evening are presented in this box which dates back to 1993 by V. L. Belov. The scene is extremely unusual for lacquer box painting as very rarely are nighttime images attempted for boxes from the village of Fedoskino. In this one it looks like a snow has just fallen in the city and is starting to build up on the roofs and cupolas of St. Basil's Cathedral, the Spassky Tower and the Kremlin wall. It is an interesting box, and we put a very tempting price on it, although we must say that the position of St. Basil's and the Kremlin are reversed. The Kremlin should be to the right of the cathedral. (Let's just say that the artist could not see things very well in the darkness!) The sides are decorated with a nice gold flower and leaf ornament. The interior is red lacquer and there is a hinge at the top. The bottom is flush. Box is in pretty good shape, though the lacquer on the surface of the box has thinned slightly revealing a moderate amount of brushstrokes on the drawing. The box is made out of high quality papier mache and signed on the lid with the village, year and artist's name.
