The winter sunset paints the sky with a warm golden glow on this serene box by E. Shishkin. The sunset is reflected onto an icy stream, the same gold foil underlay of the sunset joined by a flash of mother of pearl to create movement. The tranquil palette of soft pink and blue creates a sense of peacefulness. Tiny cottages peer through the trees, wisps of smoke rising from snow capped chimneys in an inviting touch. The sides of the box are unadorned, so as not to detract from the scene, but are bowed inwards, to create interest and balance the domed lid. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the lid with the artist's name,village, and date of completion. Their is a hinge at the top, and the interior is red lacquer.
