Perched on the king's favorite apple tree and stealing its fruit, the Firebird didn't notice how Ivan crept up and managed to grab it by the tail. The lucky bird got away, but left Ivan with one of its gold feathers, which will bring many a trials upon Ivan. The radiant red of the Firebird echos Ivan's attire and, set against red background, creates the crisp look of this older composition.
This 1977 box is made from high quality papier mache. It sits flat and has a hinge at the top. The interior is red. The sides of the box are adorned with an elegant gold and silver ornament. The bottom of the composition is signed with the name of the artist (A. Smirnov - father of Vera Smirnova!), village, year, and product code. "Made in USSR" is painted on the bottom of the box. Lacquer is in excellent condition.
