A child is peacefully asleep, while an angel is standing near to guard her rest. The scene, despite its static subjects, is full of movement: the ribbons in the child's hair seem to be floating around her head, a golden band waves around one of the angel's arms, while the other arm is raised in the air. The child and her bed appear to be floating in the air as well. The black wings sharply piercing the blue background and angel's golden hair add a sense of gravity to this otherwise dreamy image.
This beautiful work is actually painted and lacquered on a rock by one of the best Palekh artists, Tatyana Smirnova. The painting and lacquer are in very good condition.
