This two part work by Fedoskino artist Pavel Govorun is comprised of the unusual shaped box that shows the three sisters from the story "The Scarlet Flower" and the custom made stand upon which its sits. The box and stand combination make for a very handsome looking work, and it is a signature style of this artist. In this box, two sisters (the vain and self centered ones) hold gifts that reflect their nature. The third, though, holds the most tender flower in the world, and it is a gift that will lead her to happiness and her true love. The artist inlaid a piece of mother of pearl behind the scene and it subtly illuminates much of the girls' clothing as you turn the box in your hands. The sides and the base are decorated with an exquisite silver filigree. The base color is mix of several shades of red. Both the box and base are made out of high quality papier mache. It is signed on the base with the name of the artist, village, year and title. Very creative piece and very pretty.
